The Adamawa State police command has arrested a 56-year-old Aminu Abubakar for killing his wife in the state.
Abubakar, a resident of Lelewalji, Shagari Phase 2 in Yola, Yola-South allegedly beat his estranged wife, Nana Fadimatu to death, after realising her plan to marry another person.
Abubakar was alleged to have divorced the deceased twice and provided accommodation for her, pending settlement of the divorce.
But before they could settle, the deceased planned to marry another man which angered Abubakar leading to the violence.
The police said, “The suspect Aminu Abubakar, a resident of Lelewaji, Shagari phase 2, in Yola South Local Government Area subjected the deceased Nana Fadimatu to a beating following a little disagreement that ensued between them when he heard that the deceased was going to marry a new husband the next day.
“Angered by that information, the suspect furiously engaged her on 5/5/2023 at about 10pm, applied force on her by hitting her with hard object as a result of which she fell down unconscious and was later announced dead.”
“The suspect was apprehended by the police in Shagari Divisional Police Headquarters following a report received from the awaiting husband, Mahmud Rufai of Shagari Annex, Yola South Local Government Area.
“Investigation so far reveals that the suspect being a manager of Anasam Table Water at Jambutu 50 Housing had one child with the deceased after 9 years of their marriage.
“The commissioner of police CP Afolabi Babatola while expressing shock commended DPO Shagari for arresting and making it impossible for the suspect to escape justice,” the statement said.
The CP ordered officers from the anti- homicide unit, attached to State CID to take over the investigation and ensure the law takes its course.
He called on the citizens to always report people of suspicious character around their neighbourhoods to police.
