The video, originally shared by X user @dammiedammie35, captured the officer repeatedly striking the driver in a display that has sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms. The post read, “A new video of Nigerian policemen violently assaulting an Uber driver. Please spread this video because this is someone’s father they’re beating like an animal like this.”

Following the backlash, the Lagos State Police Command responded swiftly. In a statement released on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the officer had been summoned for disciplinary action.

“The Police Officer, Inspector Obic Modestus, has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) #LagosPoliceNG. He will be handed over to the Provost Department for appropriate disciplinary measures,” Hundeyin stated.

He further assured the public that the police force remains committed to accountability and professionalism.
