Police Confirm Oyo PDP Chieftain’s Release By Gunmen

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the release of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Benedict Akika.

LEADERSHIP reports that Akika was freed on Wednesday after his abduction from his Olorunda residence on September 4, 2024.

His release followed a comprehensive search operation that spanned multiple states, including Ogun, Ondo, and Edo.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, said in a statement that Akika regained his freedom late Wednesday evening, September 11, 2024, and is currently receiving medical attention before reuniting with his family.

Osifeso emphasised the ongoing efforts to apprehend the criminal network responsible for the kidnap, urging residents to provide timely and credible information to assist in the investigation.

He reassured the public of the police’s commitment to maintaining safety and security in Oyo State.
