Delta State Police Command yesterday continued its activities marking the 2026 National Police Day with a public and drivers’ sensitisation programme held across the state.
The initiative was geared towards reducing road accidents and enhancing orderliness on the roads across the state.
The sensitisation exercise was aimed at educating drivers, members of the public on personal safety, crime prevention and the importance of timely reporting of suspicious activities to the Police.
Officers engaged directly with residents, providing practical guidance on how to stay safe and contribute to a more secure society.
As part of the programme, a special session was organised for drivers and members of National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW), Delta State chapter in Asaba, focusing on road safety and responsible conduct.
Drivers were advised on the need to obey traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, updating their vehicle particulars, and respect law enforcement officers while carrying out their duties.
In addition, the Command distributed gift items to members of the public as part of its community engagement efforts, further reinforcing goodwill and strengthening police–community relations.
The union members in their remarks stated that this initiative is timely and productive, they thanked the Police immensely and also opined that any of their driver who park indiscriminately or refuse to update their vehicle documents when arrested should be prosecuted.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP John Oyeniyi, noted that public enlightenment remains a critical component of effective policing.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive in reporting suspicious activities, while also encouraging continuous cooperation with the Police.
