Following the deployment of greater numbers of security operatives to strengthen the operational base along the Ogbere – J3 corridor of the Lagos-Sagamu-Benin Expressway, the combined police operatives from Ogun and Lagos Commands have killed four members of the kidnap gang along the axis.
The police operatives also rescued five victims who were kidnapped on Thursday night, while four other members of the gang were arrested after the bush-combing operation that lasted from Thursday night till late Friday.
The duo of the Commissioners of Police in Ogun and Lagos Commands; Bode Ojajuni and Fatai Tijani disclosed this while addressing journalists on Saturday at the Police Training School (PTS) in Iperu in the Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.
The Ogun State CP, Ojajuni, who addressed journalists at the Iperu PTS on the progress recorded so far in the bush-combing operation explained that the exercise, ordered by the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu under the “Operation Ko Saye” drill, has the backing of the governors from both states.
Flanked by other senior police officers from Ogun and Lagos Commands, Ojajuni explained that 84 other suspects, among them, nine females were arrested for various crimes that included armed robbery, aiding and abetting kidnappings, as well as cultism among others.
He said investigations were still ongoing to determine the levels of culpability of those arrested since they were picked up from different locations across the two states.
Speaking in an interview, the victims, who were abducted from three different vehicles, explained that they were travelling from Anambra State to Lagos State before their abductors intercepted their vehicles around 4p.m. Thursday and led them into the bush where they tracked a long distance of over 4-hours into the bush.
Two of the victims; Temi Faith 58-years old Jimoh Gbadamosi in separate interviews, said their abductors demanded for the sum of N70 million each before reducing it to N30 Million after allowing them to speak with their relatives.
