Nasarawa Police Command has launched an offensive against Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya Nomad vigilante group and other ethnic security outfits in the state.

This followed the recent executive order proscribing the activities of such outfits in the state by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Last Tuesday, the governor signed an Executive Order No. 1 of 2024, banning the existence and operation of all ethnic vigilantes in the state.

The outfits include the Fulani ethnic vigilante group known as Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya, the Bassa Vigilante group and the Eggon Vigilante Group.

“Similar organisations include any association, movement or group of persons or society in whatever name called or formed, with the aims and objectives of providing security amongst particular ethnic groups within Nasarawa State through the use of force or arms etc,” part of the Executive Order No. 1 of 2024 reads.

A statement by the command’s public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel said operational uniforms of some Nomad Vigilante members have been seized in compliance with the executive order.

He said the seized items include 267 pairs of uniforms, 102 pieces of black belts and 189 pieces of infantry lanyards.

“Furthermore, 564 black berets, 339 pieces of black/10 white lanyards and two identification cards were also received from the aforementioned vigilante group,” the statement said.

The statement quoted the commissioner of police as calling on those who are yet to comply with the Executive Order to do so on or before the expiration of the two-week ultimatum.
