Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended six suspected gang members and recovered arms and ammunition as well as an unregistered vehicle suspected to be stolen.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Lagos Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin who disclosed that the suspects were arrested during a routine patrol on May 29, 2025, said the operation was part of the ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and enhance public safety.
Hundeyin named the suspects as Yakubu Oke, aged 48; Teslim Balogun, aged 33; Emmanuel Osas, aged 33; Joseph Abah, aged 34; Idris Adewunmi, aged 32; and 28-year-old Opeyemi Kolawole, all males.
He said the suspected raised suspicion when failed to provide satisfactory answer regarding their movements and identities after they were intercepted for questioning by police operatives.
The Lagos PPRO added that a thorough search led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 17 live cartridges, and an unregistered 1999 Toyota Camry from the suspects.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a notorious gang previously listed on the police watch list for operating across several locations within the Lagos Metropolis,” Hundeyin said.
The Lagos police image maker stressed that the suspects were cooperating with investigators and have provided useful information to help uncover additional leads and identify other accomplices.
While investigations were ongoing, Hundeyin added that the Command has intensified efforts to ensure that all criminal elements are brought to justice, adding that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Olohundare Jimoh reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eradicating crime across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
CP Jimoh assured the Lagos residents of the Command’s fully dedication to protecting lives and property as well as upholding peace and security throughout the state.
