Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 40-year-old notorious cult leader, Pius Pius, accused of specialising in kidnapping, armed robbery, vandalism of public assets and other violent crimes.
Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Timfon John, told Journalists that the Anti-Crimes Squad, following a credible intelligence, stormed the cultists’ den at Abak local government area, where the cult kingpin was apprehended, while others fled.
During the raid, DSP John disclosed that fetish objects for ritual purposes comprising a human skull, one transformer, step-down insulator, one circuit breaker and one electric meter fuse used to vandalise homes and public assets were recovered.
“Suspected cultist and vandal suspect who specialises in the vandalism of feeder transformers and public electric cables within Abak local government area and its environs has been apprehended.
“At about 6:55pm, Police operatives, acting on actionable intelligence, proceeded to No. 80 School Road by Oku Abak in Abak LGA and apprehended one Pius Pius, a 40-year-old male.
“During interrogation, Mr. Pius, confessed to being a member of the Iceland Confraternity, a group reportedly involved in the destruction of critical public infrastructure,” the police image maker said.
She added that, “A search of his room led to the recovery of the following items; a human skull one transformer step – down insulator, one circuit – breaker and electric meter fuses.”
DSP John added that investigation into the matter was ongoing, assuring that further developments will be communicated to the public as they unfold.
