Police Officer, 2 Friends Die Hours To Wedding In Bauchi

A police officer attached to Bauchi Command, SP Mustapha Gumau, died in a fatal accident in Magama-Gumau, a community in Toro, few hours to his planned wedding over the weekend.

SP Gumau was driving from his native Gumau to Magama, the venue for his wedding. The accident occurred at Bargan-Tsamiya, a community a few kilometers away from Magama. The accident occurred at 9 a.m., an hour before his wedding solemnisation, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.

LEADERSHIP learnt that the vehicle conveying the groom-to-be along with his friends Shuaibu Umar and Sulaiman Musa veered off the road and crashed, killing all of them.

Meanwhile, Bauchi State Police Command, through its  Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, CSP Mohammed Wakil confirmed the incident describing it as most tragic and unfortunate.

He said, “The Command is in a mourning mood now, the late SP Mustapha Garba, the DPO was on his way to Magaman-Gamau to attend his wedding on Saturday.He was in the vehicle, a Mercedes Benz alongside three other people who were his friends. At a village, Bargan-Tsamiya, he lost control and his vehicle swerved to the other side of the road. In the process, had a collision with oncoming Opel Vectra.”

Wakil added that “on getting the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu directed the DPO Toro to move to the scene of the incident to evacuate the victims to the General Hospital, Toro for medical attention.”

Ahmed Wakil added that, “At the General Hospital, a medical doctor confirmed them dead.

Their corpses have been released for burial.”
