The Oyo State Police Command has announced the recovery of 26 stolen cows and the arrest of two suspected cattle rustlers in Iresaadu, Surulere local government area of the State.
The suspects, identified as Abu Muhammed and Aliu Bello, were apprehended on Thursday following a prompt response by operatives attached to the Iresaadu Police Division after a report was received.
The State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital.
According to Ayanlade, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were attempting to conceal the stolen cattle when they were intercepted at Odojaye via Aganyan in Iresaadu.
“The operation underscores the effectiveness of proactive policing, intelligence-led investigations, and collaboration with community security agencies in tackling criminal activities,” Ayanlade said.
He added that the successful recovery of the cattle highlighted the positive outcomes of coordinated efforts between the police and community stakeholders in safeguarding lives and property.
The police spokesman further revealed that the suspects confessed to their roles in the crime and provided valuable information that could help unravel a wider criminal network.
The command commended members of the public for providing timely intelligence that led to the arrests and acknowledged the support of its partners, particularly non-state actors.
Residents were also urged to continue cooperating with security agencies by supplying credible information to support crime prevention efforts and strengthen community safety across the state.
