Yobe State Police Command has announced the recovery of 54 stolen animals, including 47 sheep, 4 rams, 2 goats, and 1 donkey from suspected thieves in the state.
A statement signed by the police public relations officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim , stated that on December 5, 2024, a suspect, 38-year-old Ibrahim Umaru of Jammel Village, Jacusko LGA, was arrested in possession of the stolen animals during a police patrol in Babbangida, Tarmuwa LGA.
He said that the suspect allegedly stole the animals from the Nigeria-Chad border area.
According to the statement, despite efforts to identify the owners through local information dissemination, the command is now appealing to the public for assistance.
He added that, “If you have lost domestic animals in the mentioned area, please visit the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters with credible evidence of ownership for immediate collection.”
LEADERSHIP gathered that the suspect has been arraigned in court and convicted.
The commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, encouraged the public to report missing items or belongings to the nearest police station promptly. This would enable the command to facilitate quick searches and possible recoveries.
