The Kano State Police Command has recorded major successes in its fight against vehicle theft, recovering two stolen cars and a tricycle in separate operations across the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the breakthroughs were achieved through “intelligence-led operations and community partnership.”

According to the statement, operatives attached to the Tarauni Area Command on May 3 recovered a stolen Pontiac Vibe valued at N12 million in Darmanawa Quarters after it was parked in a suspicious manner.

Police said preliminary findings showed the vehicle had been “robbed at the owner’s residence at about 0300hrs on the same date.” The car has since been returned to its owner, while “investigation is in top gear to arrest the fleeing suspects.”

In a related development, the Command also recovered a Toyota Corolla LE, 2004 model, stolen in Abuja. The vehicle was taken on April 22 at the premises of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Police said they “received credible intelligence” on the theft and swiftly tracked the vehicle to Darmanawa Layout in Kano, where it was recovered. Authorities added that the “modus and identity of the thieves have been already identified with efforts ongoing to apprehend the suspect.

Meanwhile, a CNG-powered tricycle stolen in Kaduna State was intercepted in Kano, leading to the arrest of three suspects. The police said the suspects “poisoned a tricycle rider” before making away with the vehicle and heading towards Kano. The tricycle was later recovered along Ring Road, while the suspects were taken into custody and are “assisting Police investigation.”

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended officers for their “professionalism, swift response, and intelligence-driven policing,” and also appreciated residents for their continuous support and timely information sharing.

At the handover ceremony held at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, the owners of the recovered vehicles expressed gratitude, praising the police for the “professional, transparent, and timely manner” in which their cases were handled.
