Oyo State Police Command has rescued one of two children abducted during a violent attack on a residence in Ikoyi-Ile, Orire Local Government Area of the state.
Police said efforts have been intensified to rescue the remaining victim and arrest the perpetrators.
Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said on Saturday that the incident followed a report received by the Ikoyi-Ile Police Division in the early hours of December 25, 2025, that gunshots were heard around 1:30 a.m. at Ahoro-Dada village.
According to Olayinka, suspected hoodlums armed with guns and cutlasses invaded the residence of one Ajani Isaiah, firing shots and causing panic in the area.
He added that Isaiah and two other individuals sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
Olayinka said in the process, the assailants abducted two children identified as Ajani Ayomide, 17, and Ajani Opeyemi, 15, and escaped to an unknown location before security operatives were alerted.
He explained that the Divisional Police Officer of Ikoyi-Ile and his men responded swiftly to the distress call, evacuating the injured victims to a medical facility where they were stabilised and later debriefed to support ongoing investigations.
The police spokesperson said a joint security operation involving police operatives, the Amotekun Corps, vigilantes and local hunters was launched, leading to intensive bush-combing of surrounding areas and the successful rescue of one of the abducted victims, Ajani Opeyemi, who has since been reunited with his family.
He further disclosed that a forensic sweep of the scene was conducted, resulting in the recovery of exhibits now aiding police investigations.
Olayinka added that the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, had deployed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to the area and ordered the transfer of the case to the Unit for discreet investigation.
He assured residents that the command, in collaboration with other security agencies and local partners, was committed to rescuing the remaining victim and bringing the fleeing suspects to justice.
