Police Return Thousands Of IDPs To Zamfara Community After Months Of Displacement

Thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been returned to Fegin Kanawa Village in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State by the state police command, bringing relief to residents who had been away from their homes for over a year due to persistent bandit attacks.

The return was facilitated by the Zamfara State Police Command as part of ongoing efforts to restore normalcy, rebuild public confidence, and secure communities previously affected by insecurity across the state.

Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, described the exercise as a strategic intervention aimed at ensuring the protection of lives and property while enabling displaced residents to safely return and rebuild their livelihoods.

He assured the returning families of adequate security measures by the Nigeria Police Force, adding that arrangements had been put in place to allow them resume farming and other lawful activities without fear of attacks, kidnapping, or intimidation.

CP Bello expressed appreciation to the Zamfara State Government for its continued support to security operations, noting that such collaboration had strengthened the command’s ability to achieve operational successes.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eliminating banditry and other violent crimes in the state, insisting that there would be “no hiding place for criminals.”

He further disclosed that the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) was designed to improve operational efficiency through professionalism, accountability, discipline, and respect for human rights in line with the Nigeria Police Act, 2020. Officers deployed to the unit, he said, had undergone specialised training to enhance performance.

Governor Dauda Lawal, who officially launched the VCRU at Fegin Kanawa, commended the Inspector-General of Police for the initiative, describing it as timely and critical to ongoing security reforms in the state.

The governor also praised CP Bello’s leadership and proactive strategies in restoring confidence among communities affected by violent crime.

Meanwhile, the police command urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through designated emergency lines as efforts continue to consolidate peace in the area.
