Thai authorities have arrested a Nigerian national, Nwaiwu Ifeanyi, after uncovering a large sum of cash hidden in the ceiling of his bathroom during a coordinated night raid in Bangkok.

According to a report by Khaosod English, the operation, carried out on Saturday, led to the discovery of approximately 1.5 million baht, equivalent to over ₦67 million concealed within the suspect’s residence.

Ifeanyi, 46, is alleged to be a key supplier of cocaine within the Thai capital. He was apprehended near Silom Soi 1 after law enforcement officers tracked his movements. Authorities recovered about 27 grams of cocaine from him at the point of arrest.

The raid also resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects linked to the same drug trafficking network. They were identified as Swiss national Thomas Giubibini, alongside two Thai nationals, Thanayot Asawamethi and Nattawat Wangkitjinda, who were both taken into custody on drug possession charges.

In total, police seized approximately 30 grams of cocaine, a vehicle, 1.5 million baht in cash, foreign currency valued at 15,000 baht, and jewellery estimated to be worth 400,000 baht.

Investigators disclosed that Ifeanyi had resided in Thailand for over 17 years on a family visa obtained through a Thai spouse. However, authorities suspected the marriage may have been a sham, allegedly arranged to provide legal cover for his illicit activities.

Police further revealed that the suspect is believed to have coordinated drug transactions through encrypted messaging platforms, which officers successfully infiltrated before tracking and arresting him.

During the operation, Ifeanyi reportedly resisted arrest and had to be physically restrained. He later allegedly confessed to the charges, according to investigators.

The development came less than three months after another Nigerian national, Ukoma Nuzbech, was arrested in Thailand for allegedly fleeing an ongoing drug trafficking trial in the Koh Pha Ngan area.

Nuzbech had initially been apprehended in March 2025 after allegedly selling 25.71 grams of cocaine to an undercover police officer. He was granted bail pending trial but reportedly absconded and continued involvement in drug-related activities.
