The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged the federal government to urgently resolve the alleged discrepancies in the newly gazetted tax law before its implementation.

The parties also called on Nigerians to embrace prayers, tolerance, unity and patriotism as the country marks the 2025 Christmas season,

In a Christmas Day statement signed by the national publicity secretary of IPAC, Comrade Egbeola Wale Martins, the parties joined Christians across the country in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, describing the season as a time for sober reflection on the values of love, peace, tolerance and goodwill toward humanity.

The Council encouraged Christians to use the festive period to renew their faith and recommit themselves to selfless service to the nation, noting that Nigeria is currently passing through a challenging phase that requires collective prayers and national solidarity.

IPAC called on all citizens to seek divine intervention, wisdom and guidance in the collective effort to build a strong, united, equitable, prosperous and just democratic society.

The Council also urged the Federal Government to respond to the yearnings of Nigerians by taking urgent steps to alleviate the prevailing economic and social hardships confronting citizens. It referenced Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.

“At this critical time, Nigerians desire and deserve tangible dividends of democracy,” the Council said, stressing that the welfare of citizens must remain paramount in all government policies and actions, as sovereignty ultimately resides with the people.”

On fiscal policy, IPAC expressed concern over what it described as observed discrepancies between the newly gazetted tax law and the version passed by the National Assembly. It called on the Federal Government to urgently address the inconsistencies before the law is implemented, warning that failure to do so could heighten tension and erode public confidence.
