Portuguese giants FC Porto have opted against triggering the €8 million purchase clause for Nigerian striker Terem Moffi following an underwhelming loan spell from OGC Nice.
The decision puts the Super Eagles forward back on the market, with a return to Nice also ruled out. Moffi initially left Nice under strained circumstances, having been assaulted by the club’s own fans in late 2025 alongside Jeremie Boga.
Nice co-president Maurice Cohen had previously made the stance clear: “They will not return to Nice, whether their buy options are triggered or not.”
Reports from Portugal indicate Porto tried to negotiate a reduced fee with Nice after Moffi’s half-season at the Estádio do Dragão, but talks collapsed as the club refused to honour the agreed €8 million clause.
During his brief stint, the 26-year-old managed only two goals and one assist in 15 appearances.
According to A Bola, Porto have now turned their attention to signing two new forwards rather than pursuing a permanent deal for Moffi.
West Ham United have long admired the striker, having submitted a £25 million bid in January 2023 when he was viewed as a potential successor to Michail Antonio.
Aston Villa also held talks with his representatives around the same period. In Italy, Lazio continue to monitor his situation as they seek attacking reinforcements.
French clubs Olympique de Marseille and Paris FC are also tracking the forward, while Turkish side Fenerbahçe have maintained a longstanding interest.
Over five seasons in Ligue 1 with Lorient and Nice, Moffi scored 54 league goals and added 11 assists in 148 appearances. His form convinced Nice to pay a reported club-record €30 million package to sign him permanently in January 2023.
Moffi first exploded onto the scene after joining Belgian side KV Kortrijk in 2020 before moving to Lorient.
He scored 14 goals in his debut campaign to help Lorient avoid relegation, then netted 12 times in the first half of the 2022–23 season, briefly competing with Kylian Mbappé and Neymar near the top of the Ligue 1 scoring charts.
At Nice, he adapted quickly after his record move, producing nine goals and three assists in his first 20 matches before finishing the 2023–24 campaign as the club’s top scorer with 11 goals.
