The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, has advised students on Industrial Attachment and Corps members against focusing on money when seeking a placement for their industrial attachment or mandatory one-year national service.
Ajayi said it was important for students and Corps members to know that while choosing their place of primary assignment (PPA) for IT or NYSC, the main consideration should be a place that offers them the best opportunity in their chosen field and the career they want to pursue.
Taking to his Facebook page on Thursday evening, the Presidential Media Aide wrote: “I have offered this advice to many young people in higher institutions seeking to do internship and NYSC over and over. I want to state it again for the benefit of those seeking placements for Industrial Attachment and places of primary assignment during the mandatory youth service.
“Money should never be your consideration when you are seeking a placement for your industrial attachment and NYSC.
“Your first and main consideration should be a place that offers you the best opportunity in your chosen field and the career you want to pursue.
“Last week, I saw how a young man who just finished his NYSC dazzled a panel of interviewers of a major oil producing company. His practical real life work experience during his 6 months Industrial Attachment and his just concluded NYSC was top notch.
“The interview session was so deep and technical for almost two hours that I wondered if the panelists forgot they were interviewing a boy who just got out of NYSC barely a month ago. The kind of technical oil and gas industry questions they were asking him would have been perfect for someone with 10-15 years industry experience.”
