Adamawa State Committee on Prerogative Mercy has freed 51 inmates.
They comprise sick and the aged in various correctional centres across the state
The committee also convicted 39 inmates, granted bail to 26 others and reviewed the sentences of 21 inmates serving various prison terms.
The exercise was conducted at the Yola Old Correctional Centre and was chaired by the state’s chief judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman.
Shortly after the exercise, Justice Abdulrahaman said the committee discharged, convicted, granted bail to and reviewed the sentences of the inmates following the jail delivery proceedings.
Addressing the inmates who regained their freedom, the chief judge urged them to maintain good conduct and become law-abiding citizens upon their return to society.
She warned that the committee would not extend such leniency to any of them if they were rearrested or convicted of another offence.
According to her, they should be good ambassadors as they reunite with their various communities.
