Senior special assistant to the president on community engagement (North Central), Abiodun Essiet, has said the Presidency is taking steps to restore calm and prevent further violence in Plateau State following the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North local government area.
Essiet disclosed this yesterday after an assessment by the Presidential Community Engagement Team (North Central) which focused on documenting eyewitness accounts and reviewing security dynamics.
According to her, a curfew remains in force from 3 pm to 8 am to maintain security and order in the area.
She stated that the assessment confirmed that 13 victims had been buried with government support, while additional burials were scheduled for next Tuesday.
Families, she said, are being assisted with logistics and given flexibility in burial arrangements. Essiet further noted that the 25 persons killed in the attack were aged between 23 and 76 years.
As part of efforts to understand the incident, she said local vigilantes guided the team through Gari Ya Waye, identified as the escape route used by the gunmen after the attack.
She added that findings from the assessment would inform coordinated engagement with local authorities and stakeholders, aimed at strengthening community confidence and preventing further violence.
Essiet said full details of the findings, including eyewitness reports, would be submitted to President Bola Tinubu.
She emphasised that responsive and coordinated action remained critical to safeguarding lives, supporting affected families, and fostering peace in the community.
