The senior special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abbas Tijjani Hassan, has appealed traditional rulers across the country to support the Nigerian leader’s relection next year.
He also urged them to strengthen collaboration with security agencies to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
Hassan made the call yesterday in Abuja when he received members of the Traditional Youth Chiefs’ Forum of Nigeria during a courtesy visit.
He said Tinubu had served creditably and deserve their support for a second term in office.
The presidential aide described traditional institutions as the closest level of authority to the people, recalling the vital role they played during the colonial era and stressing that they remain critical partners in promoting peace, unity and national development.
Hassan also urged parents to play a more active role in Nigeria’s cultural heritage by instilling traditional values in their children despite the growing influence of social media.
“Parents are the first school for every child. They must encourage their children to embrace and preserve our cultural heritage even as they engage with social media. This is the only way they will appreciate our cultural values and respect our rich diversity,” he said.
Youth Chiefs Forum of Nigeria, Barr. Aliyu Yusuf Shehu, commended President Tinubu for creating the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Chieftaincy Affairs, describing it as the first of its kind and a demonstration of the President’s respect for traditional institutions.
Shehu said the forum would continue to mobilise Nigerians through traditional institutions to support the Tinubu administration and promote national unity.
“As youth and custodians of our culture and tradition, we have a responsibility to educate our people on initiatives and reforms that will advance national development. We believe President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians and deserves continued support,” he said.
He added that government interventions in youth empowerment and job creation had strengthened confidence in the administration, urging traditional rulers to encourage eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in future elections.
Shehu said the mobilisation effort was aimed at ensuring broad participation in the electoral process while supporting the continuity of the administration’s programmes.
