Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno has approved the immediate recruitment of 1,000 additional staff into the State judiciary for quick dispensation of justice.

Governor Eno announced the approval at a thanksgiving forum in Uyo, the State capital to usher in the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the State Judiciary.

He explained that hiring additional judicial workers became necessary to fill the longstanding vacancies in the system, and to enable the Courts to expedite adjudication processes.

Eno said this measure will aid in reducing prisons’ congestion across the four formations in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket and Ikot Abasi local government areas.

He, therefore, directed that all applications must go through the State Employment Portal, insisting that the process should be strictly merit-based and not politicised.

“There will be no slot for anyone, no godfatherism. We believe that any average applicant seeking to join the civil service should be able to pass a simple computer-based test. We will work with the Judiciary to ensure a seamless process,” the governor assured.
