A pro-President Bola Tinubu group, the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN), has undertaken strategic adjustments within its structure to ensure the president secures victory in the South East in the 2027 election.
The group added that there wass an urgent need for a more credible, structured and locally resonant platform to drive the campaign in what it called the South East’s turbulent political terrain.
This followed the appointment of Mazi Franklin Ngoforo as its deputy national leader (Southeast) to drive support in the zone.
RHGN national leader, Hon. Calistus Anyanwu, said the appointment, which takes immediate effect, is calculated to improve the South East political architecture of the group.
Anyanwu said Ngoforo’s appointment will drive grassroots mobilisation, infuse trust, and amass measurable political support for President Bola Tinubu in the South East zone.
It is believed in some quarters that the once-vibrant City Boy Movement, initially designed to galvanise South East youths in support of President Tinubu, may have significantly lost momentum across the region, hence the need to strengthen RHGN.
Anyanwu disclosed that Ngoforo is expected to deploy his expertise to the critical task of re-engineering grassroots mobilisation and youth engagement ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Further, he said the appointment was made amid indications that political strategists within the pro-Tinubu camp had recognised the urgent need for a more credible, structured, and locally resonant platform, one driven by experienced young politicians with a fresh and compelling message.
He said, “We have gone beyond rhetoric and are now strategic in our mandate to garner support for President Bola Tinubu across the country. Ngoforo’s appointment today is a strategic recalibration of the President’s South East political architecture.
“By this appointment, he is mandated to coordinate and drive the group’s activities across the five South East states, with a particular focus on rebuilding trust, energising the grassroots, and delivering measurable political support,” Anyanwu said.
Anyanwu maintained that rather than relying on populist movements with waning influence, RHGN is prioritising tested leadership and political experience among younger actors who can translate strategy into tangible electoral outcomes.
Ngoforo, in his acceptance speech, thanked the RHGN leadership for the appointment, saying he was elated and pledged to work for the success of the mandate.
He noted that the South East presents a unique political challenge that requires not just visibility but authenticity, credibility, and sustained grassroots presence, adding that he was ready to deploy it.
He said, “I feel honoured by this appointment. It is an acknowledgement of trust, capability, and responsibility. I assure you that I will work hard to bridge the generational gaps while aligning local aspirations with the broader Renewed Hope agenda.”
Until the appointment, the new RHGN South East Deputy National Leader was a seasoned political actor from Ideato in Imo State, who had contested elections to represent Ideato Federal Constituency in the past.
He brings to the role a track record of electoral participation, grassroots mobilisation, and message-driven campaigning.
It is believed that Ngoforo’s appointment is a deliberate move towards more intentional and structured engagement with the region’s youth demographic.
Supporters who attended the inauguration, in their different remarks, described the move as a bold and timely intervention and a litmus test for the Tinubu camp’s seriousness in engaging the region beyond symbolic gestures.
