The president of the National Academy of Pharmacy (NAP), Prof. Lere Baale, has paid glowing tributes to the late Sir Ifeany Atueyi, describing him as a shining light, bridge builder and inspiration to pharmacists and medical leaders.
Baale, who eulogised the pioneer vice-president, elder statesman, a Christian leader and a mentor in a statement at the valedictory session in honour of Atueyi, said his impact in the health care and particularly in the practice of pharmacy.
The don noted that Sir Atueyi was a cerebral professional, publisher of almost 30 books, mentor and lifelong guide to many, and publishing pioneer, founder, and publisher of Africa’s foremost pharmaceutical publication, PharmaNews.
“Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi was not only present at the inception of this Academy (NAP); he was also one of its chief architects, giving life, credibility, and direction to this vision.
He passionately believed that pharmacy must rise beyond routine practice to become a discipline of national significance and an engine for human development.
“He ensured that the Academy became a living platform of ideas, ethics, and influence—not. A ceremonial body. Through his writings, counsel, and presence, he embedded the enduring values of knowledge in us.
“Through his writings, counsel, and presence, he embedded in us the enduring values of knowledge dissemination, professionalism, and ethical leadership.
“As we honour Sir Atueyi’s memory, we recommit ourselves to his mission: building an Academy that remains a lighthouse for pharmacy and healthcare in Nigeria, Africa, and the global world”.
