Prof. Adenike Grange, a globally renowned paediatrician, consultant, author and former Nigerian Minister in charge of the Federal Ministry of Health and as well as Prominent Nigerians, mostly serving and former political office holders and eminent personalities from all walks of life, converged in Abuja to chart the way forward for Nigeria.
While speaking at the event, she said “The time of truth has come. This situation is no longer acceptable to any Nigerian. We can’t be mourning our citizens every day due to carelessness on the part of people in government, the people deseve better than what they are getting.”
“It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, for any well-meaning Nigerian not be despondent right now. The country is at a crossroads like never before. It is at that point when leaders rise to the occasion by making the all-important decision(s).”
“The sad thing is that Nigeria arrived at this point when it had no leader – the ship of the Nigerian state is rudderless.”
“Our leaders doesn’t live by example, they need to understand the the concept of Tupocracy and adopt it.
“The governor of Enugu state Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Udom Gabriel Emmanuel of Akwa ibom state are political office holders who have shown to have adopted Tupocracy in their government and have even helped to integrate it into higher institutions of learning in their states.”
“These are good steps, and I am also aware that the governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has adopted leadership by example as enunciated in Tupocracy”
She emphasised that Tupocracy will bring more light to Nigerian politics and governance if adopted and commended the states who have adopted the system; these includes Benue, Enugu and Akwa Ibom states.
She also said the following in her speech:
“Tupocracy is a crucial factor that can have a significant impact on Nigeria. When leaders lead by example, they set a positive precedent for their followers and inspire them to follow suit. In the Nigerian context, where corruption and unethical practices have been persistent challenges, leadership by example can play a transformative role in fostering transparency, accountability, and integrity.
“Firstly, when leaders adopts Tupocracy, they demonstrate the values and behaviors they expect from others. If leaders exhibit honesty, integrity, and ethical conduct in their own actions, it sends a powerful message to the rest of society. It creates a culture of accountability where individuals recognize the importance of honest and ethical behavior. This can be particularly impactful in the fight against corruption, as leaders who are transparent and accountable can inspire others to do the same, leading to a reduction in corrupt practices.
“Secondly, Tupocracy can instill a sense of trust and confidence in the government and its institutions. When leaders act in a manner consistent with the best interests of the nation, it builds trust among the citizens. Trust is essential for social cohesion and economic development. When people have confidence in their leaders, they are more likely to support government initiatives, follow laws, and actively participate in nation-building activities. This trust can lead to increased investment, both domestic and foreign, and contribute to the overall development of Nigeria.
“Lastly, Tupocracy can inspire a new generation of leaders. When young people see leaders who are committed, dedicated, and ethical, they are more likely to aspire to leadership roles themselves. They become motivated to make a positive impact on society and work towards the betterment of Nigeria. By setting an example of good leadership, current leaders can help shape the future of the nation by nurturing a new generation of ethical and responsible leaders who will continue to drive positive change.
“In conclusion, Tupocracy has the potential to bring about significant positive change in Nigeria. By demonstrating honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior, leaders can inspire others to follow suit, leading to a reduction in corruption and unethical practices. Moreover, Tupocracy builds trust and confidence in the government, fostering social cohesion and economic development. Finally, it inspires the next generation of leaders, ensuring a sustainable legacy of ethical and responsible leadership in Nigeria.
If the present government is finding it difficult to understand the concept, there are books on it written by the inventor of the word and Amanim Akpabio who is a Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Uyo, Nigeria and also the President of the LEGENDLI has also written a paper presentation about Tupocracy.
