The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has nominated the immediate-past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd), as the recipient of this year’s Mayor of Peace Award.

The announcement followed the association’s 246th general session held in Lagos, Nigeria, where Gen. Musa was recognised for his “outstanding contributions to peace and security in Nigeria and beyond.”

Speaking on the nomination, Ambassador Emmanuel Nkweke, International Spokesman of IAWPA, praised the retired military chief for his strategic leadership and unwavering commitment to national stability.

“Gen. Musa’s tenure as Chief of Defence Staff was marked by significant achievements, including the successful execution of several operations to combat terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria,” Amb. Nkweke said. “His leadership and strategic thinking have been instrumental in maintaining peace and stability in the country.”

According to the association, Gen. Musa’s record includes major accomplishments in counter-terrorism, regional security cooperation, troop welfare, and peacekeeping operations.

During his time as Defence Chief, Musa spearheaded several counter-terrorism campaigns that led to the liberation of many communities previously under terrorist control. He also strengthened regional ties with neighbouring nations to address cross-border security threats and enhance collaboration in combating insurgency.

In addition, the former Defence Chief was credited with prioritising troop welfare, initiating improved living and medical conditions for personnel, and ensuring Nigeria’s continued role in international peacekeeping missions.

LEADERSHIP reports that the Mayor of Peace Award is IAWPA’s annual honour bestowed on individuals whose actions and leadership have advanced the cause of peace and security globally.

Gen. Musa’s nomination, the group said, was a reflection of his “dedication to public service and enduring commitment to national and global peace.”
