The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office is set to file formal criminal charges against American singer and TikTok sensation David Burke, popularly known as D4vd, on Monday. The move follows his high-profile arrest in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
According to TMZ, Monday serves as the legal deadline for prosecutors to either charge the 21-year-old musician or release him from custody. Sources indicate that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) significantly pressured the D.A.’s office to move forward after months of investigation, reportedly forcing the prosecution’s hand by executing the arrest earlier this week.
The arrest on Thursday followed a long-standing probe into the grim discovery of Celeste’s body, which was found in the trunk of a Tesla belonging to the singer over seven months ago. While a grand jury was convened as far back as November, it appears the LAPD waited for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner to officially declare the death a homicide before executing the arrest in a major show of force.
Legal experts suggest that the police may have acted to ensure the District Attorney proceeded with the case. However, with the formal homicide ruling now in hand, the prosecution is expected to pull the trigger on the case finally.
In a statement provided to the media, Burke’s legal team maintained his innocence, asserting that the actual evidence would prove he was not responsible for the teenager’s death.
Burke, who rose to global fame with hits like Romantic Homicide, currently remains in custody without bail. The upcoming court filing on Monday is expected to provide more clarity on the specific charges he will face.
