The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has screened and cleared three presidential aspirants to contest its forthcoming presidential primary ahead of the May 25, 2026 exercise
The cleared aspirants are Dr. Nnaoke Ufere from Abia State, Engr. (Dr.) Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley from Edo State, and former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke.
The party’s National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, confirmed to LEADERSHIP on Saturday in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Muhammed Ishaq, the PRP said the aspirants had accepted to abide by the outcome of the primary process and submit themselves to the decision of party members across the country.
The statement said it remains committed to a transparent, credible and inclusive process, adding that over 260 aspirants are expected to participate in various elective contests under the party platform.
According to Ishaq, the party is determined to strengthen internal democracy and ensure fairness in the conduct of the primaries.
He said where consensus is not achieved, the party would proceed with competitive primaries in line with its constitution.

Donald Duke
Donald Duke is widely regarded as the most prominent of the three contenders. He served as governor of Cross River State between 1999 and 2007 and became known for policies centred on tourism, urban renewal and infrastructure development.
During his administration, Calabar gained national and international recognition through projects such as the Calabar Carnival and the Tinapa Business Resort.
Duke also contested the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), campaigning on governance reforms, economic diversification and youth participation in leadership. Political analysts believe his presence in the PRP race could attract wider national attention to the party.
Dr. Nnaoke Ufere
Also, Dr. Nnaoke Ufere, an indigene of Abia State, is viewed within party circles as a technocrat with strong interests in economic policy and institutional reforms. Although he is relatively new to national politics, supporters describe him as one of the intellectual voices emerging within the PRP.
His expected campaign focus includes economic recovery, industrial expansion and accountability in governance. Observers say his candidacy reflects the party’s strategy of promoting professionals and technocrats as alternatives to traditional political actors.
Engr. (Dr.) Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley
Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley, an engineer from Edo State, is known for his involvement in grassroots mobilisation and youth-focused political activities. He has built support among sections of young professionals and party supporters advocating generational change in leadership.
His campaign is expected to emphasise industrial growth, innovation, youth empowerment and national cohesion.
