Rainstorm has wreaked havoc at Iyara Community, the headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, removing roofs of over 100 houses while it rendered more than 3,000 people homeless.

The rainstorm which occurred Monday night affected residents who are now counting their losses as some are currently taking shelter with neighbours, families and friends.

Speaking shortly after embarking on an on-the-spot assessment of the wreckages, the Eleta Oluyara of Iyara, Oba Jacob Meduteni described the disaster as unfortunate especially coming at a time the people are faced with economic hardship.

Oba Meduteni called on wealthy individuals and corporate bodies to assist the victims to ameliorate their sufferings.

On his part, the National President of Iyara Development Association (IDA), Alh. Aliyu Badaki, said over 1,000 persons, mostly women and children were affected by the disaster.
