Ramadan: BWSO Distributes 300 Rice Bags To PWD Families In Bauchi

The Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) has extended its Ramadan humanitarian outreach to Misau and Azare local government areas of Bauchi State, distributing 300 bags of rice to families of persons living with disabilities.

The intervention saw 150 bags presented to 150 families in Misau Local Government Area and another 150 bags distributed to 150 families in Azare, headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area.

The outreach is part of the organisation’s ongoing statewide Ramadan relief campaign targeting vulnerable and indigent communities.

The latest distribution followed a similar exercise in Bauchi metropolis, where 400 families of persons living with disabilities benefitted from food support under the initiative.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony in Misau, the Chief Operations Officer of BWSO, Alhaji Ladan Salihu Kangere, said the exercise was carried out in line with the humanitarian vision of Dr Bala Maijama Wunti.

He described the initiative as a reflection of the organisation’s commitment to compassion, inclusion and social responsibility, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to Kangere, vulnerable households, especially persons living with disabilities often face heightened economic and mobility challenges during the fasting period.

“This outreach is a demonstration of Dr Bala Wunti’s deep concern for the wellbeing of vulnerable groups in our society,” he said.

“Ramadan teaches charity, empathy, and sacrifice. Through this statewide campaign, BWSO seeks to extend practical support to those who need it most, ensuring that they observe the holy month with dignity and less hardship.”

In Azare, the chief finance officer of BWSO, Dr Umar Dauda, who presented the items on behalf of Dr Wunti, said the gesture was aimed at easing the burden on disadvantaged families struggling to secure meals to break their fast.

“Dr Wunti sent us with these foodstuffs as his own contribution to ease your supplications in this holy month of Ramadan,” he stated.

Beneficiaries described the intervention as timely.

Responding on behalf of recipients in Misau, the Chairman of Persons Living with Disabilities in the area, Malam Balarabe Musa Wakilin Marayun Misau, expressed gratitude to BWSO and Dr Wunti for what he called a critical intervention amid rising living costs.

“This palliative support has come at a time when our members truly need encouragement and relief,” he said.

“We sincerely thank Dr Bala Wunti and the Bala Wunti Support Organisation for remembering our community. We pray that Almighty God rewards him abundantly and grants him continued strength to serve humanity.”

Similarly, leaders of persons living with disabilities in Azare, including Malam Musa Hassan Sarkin Makafi and Malam Aliyu Haruna, commended the organisation for prioritising their community.

They, however, appealed for sustained support, particularly in the areas of education for children with disabilities and children of persons living with disabilities, as well as empowerment programmes aimed at reducing street begging.

Providing further insight into the initiative, the chief communication officer of BWSO, Abubakar Al-Sadique, said the outreach underscores the organisation’s broader inclusive development agenda across Bauchi State.

He noted that beyond the immediate relief, the campaign seeks to spotlight the importance of supporting persons living with disabilities as active and valued members of society.

The distribution exercises were conducted in what organisers described as an orderly and transparent manner, with beneficiaries carefully verified to ensure fairness and accountability. In addition to the food items, N500,000 was provided in each of the two local government areas to support transportation logistics.

Community stakeholders present at the events commended BWSO for prioritising persons living with disabilities in its Ramadan humanitarian efforts.
