Senator representing Sokoto East senatorial district, Ibrahim Lamido Isah, has flagged off the distribution of 16 trucks of rice and 15,000 bundles of textile materials to the people of his constituency.
A total of 24,000 households from the eight local government areas of the district comprising orphans, the needy, IDPs, widows, religious leaders, former members of national and state assemblies, former commissioners, households and other less privileged would benefit from the Ramadan package.
Represented by Hon Kabiru Sarkin Fulani, APC chairman and sole administrator of Goronyo local government, Senator Lamido said the gesture was an intervention to cushion the effects of current economic hardship in the country and, assist the needy to perform Ramadan fasting with ease.
“We are flagging-off the distribution of 16 trucks of parboiled rice, 15000 bundles of textile materials to various categories of beneficiaries across the 8 local government areas of Sokoto East.
“This gesture is a Ramadan welfare package and it has nothing to do with politics, the council areas are Isa, Sabon Birni, Gada, Illela, Gwadabawa, Goronyo, Wurno and Rabah local government.
“The beneficiaries are drawn from various categories of the poorest of the poor, the needy, religious leaders, youth groups, serving and former political actors irrespective of political affiliation,” Lamido said.
He urged the distribution committees at different levels to ensure justice and fairness while distributing the items and also appealed to Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for the restoration of peace and stability in the state and country at large.
Earlier, the representative of the senator, Hon Kabiru Sarkin Fulani, who also doubles as chairman of the distribution committee, said the items would cover all the political wards across the zone.
The APC chairman Illela local government, Alhaji Muhammadu Sarkin Alaru Illela, commended Lamido for extending the gesture to the less privileged.
The guest speaker at the event, Professor Mu’azu Shamaki Isa, of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, recalled that Lamido had helped 11,333 students and 2,500 widows with over N1 billion under his foundation’s trust fund.
