Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the sum of N187 million for the feeding of the less privileged and the vulnerable throughout this year’s Ramadan fast in the state.

In an interview with LEADERSHIP in his office, the commissioner for religious affairs, Alhaji Umar Yusuf, said Governor Buni also approved the payment of allowances to Muslim faithful through the period.

He said it has been the tradition of the state government to feed the less privileged and to assist them under “Iftar”.

Yusuf said, “I want to use this opportunity to inform people that we will spend N187 million for the whole Ramadan period. We are not aware about N100 million daily; we don’t have such money in the state.

“We have scheduled our officers to go round and inspect all the feeding centres, we can’t leave it like this for people to do whatever they like.”

He said the amount approved by the state governor will be used to buy rice, pure water, cooking oil condiments for 84 feeding centres in the state.

Also, the commissioner for information, home affairs and culture, Hon Abdullahi Bego, affirmed that the governor approved the sum of N187 million for the feeding of the poor and the less privileged in the state during the Ramadan fast.

He said a minimum of 200 people are expected to benefit daily for 29 or 30 days in each of the 84 centres across the 17 local government areas of the state.

The commissioner called on the people of the state to disregard the misinformation that the governor approved N100 million daily for 30 days for the exercise, stressing that “the total amount approved is N187 million for the whole month.”
