Rangers Abandon Driouech Deal After Winger Fails Medical

Rangers have pulled out of a proposed deal to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech after the player was found to be carrying an injury, the Scottish club have confirmed.

The 24-year-old Moroccan-born attacker had been in Glasgow and watched Rangers’ 1-1 Europa League draw with Jagiellonia Białystok at Ibrox, but the move has now collapsed following concerns over his fitness.

Driouech will return to Dutch champions PSV after Rangers decided against proceeding with the transfer.

The left-sided forward enjoyed a productive campaign last season, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists in 40 appearances for PSV. However, he started only one of the club’s eight Champions League matches.

His failed move comes as Rangers continue an ambitious rebuilding programme under their new management structure.

The Ibrox club have already brought in nine new players this summer, while chairman Andrew Cavenagh said on Monday that he expected a further three to five arrivals, alongside several departures, before the transfer window closes.

One of those departures was confirmed on Wednesday, with midfielder Mohamed Diomande completing a move to Turkish club Çorum.

Driouech, a winner of the 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations with Morocco, began his football education in the Heerenveen youth system before establishing himself at Excelsior.

He made 101 appearances for Excelsior before joining PSV in 2024, where he continued his development and became part of the club’s first-team squad.

Despite Rangers’ decision to abandon the deal, the club are expected to remain active in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a demanding domestic and European campaign.
