Rangers Begin Title Defence Against Katsina United As NPFL Unveils 2026/27 Fixtures

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has unveiled the fixtures for the 2026/27 season, with defending champions Rangers International handed a home opener against Katsina United.

The new campaign will kick off on Friday, 28 August, with Shooting Stars hosting newly promoted Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

The encounter will be particularly significant for Inter Lagos as it marks the club’s first-ever appearance in Nigeria’s top flight following their promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) last season.

Attention will then shift to Enugu on Sunday, 30 August, when nine-time champions Rangers begin their title defence against Katsina United at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, popularly known as the ‘Cathedral’.

Rangers, who secured their ninth NPFL title last season, will be aiming to make a strong start as they begin their pursuit of a record-extending 10th league crown.

The opening weekend will also feature several intriguing encounters, including a South-South derby between Bendel Insurance and Warri Wolves.

Rivers United will host Plateau United, while Kwara United welcome Kano Pillars. Niger Tornadoes will face former champions Enyimba, with Doma United taking on Sporting Lagos.

Elsewhere, Ikorodu City will entertain newly promoted Ranchers Bees, Abia Warriors will face Kun Khalifat, while Barau FC host Nasarawa United.
