Famous rock band Pink Floyd’s popular 70’s Album, Dark Side of the Moon, clocked 53 today, 1st of March.
Over 50 years later, the highly acclaimed album still dominates the rock music world, defining it in many ways.
Launched on March 1, 1973, by Capitol Records in the US and on 16 March 1973 by Harvest Records in the UK, Pink Floyd’s eighth studio album remains the most influential staple act in the history of music
The Dark Side of the Moon features themes such as time, conflict, greed, death, and mental illness. Due to its popularity, the record, spanning various music eras, remained on Billboard’s Top 200 chart for almost 14 years. The album
is again on this week’s #Billboard200 chart at No. 194.
The album’s intro and finale, ‘Brain Damage’ and ‘Eclipse’, remain among the most appreciable moments in classic rock.
Collider publication placed the legendary album No. 1 in the classic rock genre in February 2026. It complemented the song’s consistency and fearless assessment of mental health and overconsumption.
The publication also featured other Pink Floyd staples, such as Animals, The Wall, and Wish You Were Here, on its list.
ShortList’s rating of the 50 best rock albums of all time named the legendary album the greatest of them all, ranking it above The Beatles’ Abbey Road and Led Zeppelin’s IV.
