Rector of the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi (WUFPBK) in Kebbi State, Dr Usman Sani Tunga, has advocated the use of technology through skills acquisition to solve the climate change challenges, unemployment, insecurity and others.
He spoke at the opening of the 9th Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) national conference and funds raising held at the auditorium of the institution in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
Tunga emphasised that skills acquisition is key in solving Nigeria’s challenges, especially climate change, insecurity, unemployment and the economy.
The rector said the conference which was organised by ASUP branch of his school was centred on the role of the polytechnics in solving challenges of insecurity, unemployment and climate change.
He called on the participants to brainstorm on the problems facing the development of the country in order to come up with solutions.
The sum of N50.7 million was realised at the fund-raising for the construction of a befitting ASUP secretariat in the polytechnic.
The chairman of ASUP, Dr Zubairu Usman Bashar, thanked the attendees, who also made donations towards the construction of the secretariat.
