The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Region 46, is set to host the 3rd edition of its highly anticipated regional sports festival, aiming to foster unity, healthy competition, and physical wellness among its member parishes.
Scheduled to begin from May to July 2006, the event will bring together thousands of participants, including youth groups, adult teams, and clergy members from parishes across the region.
The festival is designed to showcase athletic talent while reinforcing the church’s commitment to holistic well-being, encompassing both spiritual and physical development.
Speaking to journalists at a press conference in Abuja, Regional Pastor Ola Adejubee, said the aim of the festival is to revive sports to put it in its proper place.
“The idea is to revive and restore sports to put it in its proper place, a place of pride, so that we can enjoy good health, a sound mind and perfect spirituality. Sports bring people together irrespective of religion or race, Adejubee said.
He added that sports ease tension and encouraged Nigerians to use it to promote peace and unity in the country.
Also speaking Adeleke Kehinde, Director of Sports said this year’s edition will be different as the church has lined up different activities for the festival.He added that there will be more female participation in this year’s event compared to previous editions.
The event will feature a variety of indoor sports such as draughts scrabble and traditional sports. Organisers have also confirmed that there will be special categories for ministers and pastors, adding a unique dimension to the festivities.
Security, medical personnel, and logistics teams have been put in place to ensure the safety and smooth running of the games. Parishioners are encouraged to come out in large numbers to support their teams and enjoy the festivities.
The festival is expected to conclude with a closing ceremony at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, where winners will be awarded trophies, medals, and other exciting prizes.
