Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has dismissed suggestions of a breakdown in the relationship between Liverpool manager Arne Slot and Mohamed Salah.
Speculation surrounding tension between the pair intensified earlier this season after Salah publicly questioned certain tactical decisions during a difficult spell for the Reds. However, Redknapp insists reports of friction have been exaggerated.
Speaking to Tribal Football, Redknapp revealed that Salah had previously spoken positively about Slot’s tactical approach and the freedom it afforded him in attacking situations.
“Mo Salah, when they won the league with Slot, he was very much, ‘This is great now,’” Redknapp said.
“It was a bit different. It was sometimes difficult under Klopp.”
According to Redknapp, Salah appreciated Slot’s more attack-minded system, which allowed him to focus primarily on creating and scoring goals.
“I remember him saying that it suited him a lot more with Arne Slot,” he added.
“‘He’s given me a lot of licence not to defend as much and then go and win the game.’”
Redknapp argued that criticism of Slot’s management has been unfair, particularly following a challenging campaign.
“It feels a little disrespectful to say Slot hasn’t done well,” he continued.
“I understand he’s had a poor season, but we need patience. Salah certainly wasn’t complaining when they won the league.”
The former England international believes recent social media remarks may be linked more to form than any personal disagreement.
