As part of Kogi State government’s effort to make functional all the specialised health care facilities at the Reference Hospital Okene, the medical directors of Caroline Medical Centre Abuja, Dr Elijah Miner and Mr Tada Simon visited the Reference Hospital with a view to partnering with it to provide care for patients with kidney related ailments.
While welcoming the medical team from the Caroline Medical Centre, the chief medical director, Prof Solomon Avidime told the visitors that the Reference Hospital Okene is a legacy project of governor Yahaya Bello and it is one of its kind with close to 300 bed capacity.
He added that the hospital has a well established radio diagnostic unit as well as the dialysis unit. The dialysis unit can boast of five numbers of dialysis machines as well a continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) machine.
Dr Miner in his response expressed delight to have come to visit the Reference Hospital, adding that he is optimistic that the Reference Hospital and Caroline Medical Centre will be able to work out a relationship in renal care.
Dr Miner and Mr Simon Tada had a tour of the dialysis centre and the entire hospital. They both acknowledged that the hospital is truly of international standard and commended the government of Kogi State on the achievements, most especially on the state-of-the-art hospital.
The chief medical director (CMD) of Reference Hospital, Prof Solomon Avidime was earlier at the Caroline Medical Centre in Abuja where he had an initial meeting with Dr Miner and sought collaboration with the centre with a request that his team should visit the Reference Hospital dialysis centre for assessment.
Caroline Medical Centre Abuja is a renowned specialised private Nephrology (Kidney) Centre, Dialysis treatment and kidney transplantation. The medical director, Dr Elijah Miner is a UK trained Renal surgeon who lead team of medical personnels to perform the first kidney transplant in Nigeria and now works as a consultant surgeon.
The team paid homage to the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland and were later hosted to dinner at the residence of Daudu Alh Abu Imam.
Prof Avidime is hopeful that with the cooperation of Caroline Medical Centre, Reference Hospital will soon kick start the dialysis centre as well as keeping in view kidney transplant in Okene.
