Rep Inaugurates Solar Boreholes, JAMB Centre, Classrooms In Okpoko

The member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, has commissioned solar-powered water boreholes, a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) centre and classroom blocks in Okpoko community, Anambra State.

The lawmaker delivered one solar borehole in each of the six wards that make up Okpoko and also commissioned six classroom blocks at Girls Secondary School, Okpoko Ward 6.

Hundreds of residents, including turned out at the various commissioning sites to celebrate what they described as a long-awaited relief, especially from years of water scarcity.

The parish priest of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish, Okpoko Ward 3, Very Rev. Monsignor Theophilus Ndubuisi Odukwe, joined Ogene to commission the borehole. The parish priest of SS Peter and Paul Parish, Nkutaku East Niger Layout, Okpoko Ward 6, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Ogbunkwa, inaugurated the new JAMB centre.

At the event, Ogene said the projects were deliberately targeted at yhr basic needs of the contituents.

“My choice of projects is inspired by the leadership philosophy of our NDC presidential candidate in the coming 2027 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, who prioritises the welfare of ordinary people, and the future of children and the unborn generation,” Ogene said.

Monsignor Odukwe and Rev. Fr. Ogbunkwa, in separate remarks, commended the lawmaker for his humility and for providing facilities that directly address the needs of ordinary citizens while creating opportunities for young people.

Residents who spoke at the commissioning expressed gratitude to Ogene for intervening in a problem that had weighed heavily on households.

Mr. Isaac Akaniro said he previously spent over N500 weekly to buy water for domestic use. Mrs. Angelina Okoli said she spent more than N3,000 monthly, adding that trekking to water vendors often made her children late for school.

Chief Paulinus Ikechukwu Nwokedi, Mr. Anyanwu Hyacinth, Mrs. Lauretta Ezerie and Mr. Vincent Okeke also thanked the lawmaker, describing the boreholes as a major bre akthrough for the community.

Two students of Apex International Secondary School, Okpoko — Samuel Aladele, SS1, and Chibuzor Nwibe, SS3 — said the solar borehole sited in their school would improve hygiene on campus.

The community also pledged political support for Ogene’s re-election bid.

Anyanwu Hyacinth said he delivered 85 per cent of votes in Ogbaru Main Market and Shoe Site areas to Ogene in the last election, and vowed to mobilise for 95 per cent in 2027.

Chief Nwokedi said he would mobilise residents for both the NDC presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and Ogene, noting that both leaders “are very dear to the people of Okpoko.”
