The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) has commended the management of Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited (IEPL) for its remarkable transformation and expansion of the facility, describing the company as a model of industrial excellence in Nigeria.

The commendation came during an oversight visit to the company’s petrochemical plant in Eleme, Rivers State, led by the committee chairman, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere.

The lawmakers praised Indorama’s leadership for reviving what was once a moribund facility into a world-class petrochemical hub that is now contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economy through job creation, revenue generation, and foreign exchange earnings.

Ugochinyere lauded the company’s managerial capacity, noting that its achievements demonstrate the power of efficient private sector management in transforming critical national assets.

“We are impressed by what we have seen here. Indorama is not just running a petrochemical plant; they are supporting Nigeria’s agricultural and energy sectors through the production of fertilizers and other by-products. This is a transformational industrial model that deserves national recognition,” he stated.

The committee also applauded Indorama’s commitment to host community development and peaceful engagement, which it described as crucial for the sustainability of industrial operations in the Niger Delta.

However, the lawmakers expressed concern over the challenges facing the company, especially the insecurity affecting the transportation of raw materials such as gas through pipelines.

They called on the Federal Government to give more attention to the needs of industrial players like Indorama, including the possibility of allocating key assets to help them secure critical raw materials.

“We urge the Federal Government to support industries like Indorama with assets and infrastructure that will ease access to raw materials. If factories like this thrive, thousands of other businesses depending on their output will also thrive,” Ugochinyere noted.

The committee members pledged to use their legislative powers to support the company’s ongoing expansion and operational needs, emphasizing the importance of industrial growth to national development.

“If we have more transformational efforts like Indorama’s across Nigeria, we will have more jobs, more investment, and more economic benefits for our people. As parliamentarians, we are ready to back you with legislative tools for the greater good of Nigerians,” Ugochinyere concluded.
