The House of Representatives committee on sports has decried the incessant complaints of lack of funds and delays in paying Super Eagle head coach monthly salary and urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to make the salaries of national teams coaches an item in its annual budget.

The committee made the suggestion during an interactive meeting with the NFF’s leadership yesterday, saying it will make it easy for the federal government to pay.

The committee chairman, Hon. Kabiru Amadu said: “it was important to meet with the NFF officials to know how they performed with their 2024 budget and the challenges they are facing ahead of the 2025 appropriation”.

“As a committee, it’s very necessary for us to be on the same page with the NFF so that we can continue to improve the game because football is a unifier and therefore we must do everything to always put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.”

He described the committee deliberation with the NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and his general secretary, Dr Sanusi Muhammed, as robust and assured his committee commitment in assisting NFF to fashion out an actionable budget that will help the body grow football in the country.

“It was a robust session with both the NFF President and the General Secretary, and we also raised concerns about the areas we were not satisfied with and asked them to furnish us with more details before their next budget defense for 2025”.
