The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has reacted to the recent wave of resignations in the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the development as something that comes with the times.
In a statement, the Information Commissioner explained that while some supporters of the governor might feel betrayed by the development, Makinde himself has a sense of déjà vu.
According to him, never in the history of the country has a governor stood his ground, maintained his composure and remained firm in his convictions amid what he described as simmering and unfettered intimidation, even as some of his colleagues capitulated against their personal will.
He noted that the governor’s position sends a clear message about the importance of conscience and truth, declaring: “Conscience is an open wound and only Truth can heal it.”
The commissioner added that Makinde was reassuring Nigerians, particularly the people of Oyo State, that cowardice and prevarication were the least virtues required at a time when victory founded on lies, empty promises, cajoling and deceit was gradually coming to an end.
Oyelade’s reaction comes amid recent departures of political appointees from the Makinde administration, most recently the resignation of Barrister Ayobami Ojo as Commissioner for Budget and Planning.
