Resolved Gas Crisis Pushes Up Geometric Power’s Efficiency

Geometric Power, has experienced full gas supply after recent nationwide gas crisis that caused most Nigerians to celebrate Christmas without light.

This fact was made known by the Southeast zone of the Electricity Consumers Association of Nigeria (ECAN).

In a statement signed by the Southeastern ECAN chairman, Engr Joe Ubani, and the secretary, Comrade Chris Okpara, the association revealed that the 188MW Geometric Power Plant in the Osisioma Industrial Layout of Aba resumed full operations on Monday following normal natural gas supply from its partner, Heirs Energies Ltd.

“We have it on good authority that two of its three turbines are currently getting enough gas to generate power and meet the demand of its customers in Aba since the night of Monday, December 29”, ECAN declared.

“This means that there is now normal supply to the Aba Electricity Ring-fenced Area comprising nine of the 17 local government areas in Abia State”.

The nationwide gas shortages started on December 10 following an explosion on the Escravos-Lagos Gas Pipeline which the Nigerian authorities attribute to vandalism.

Though the Aba Ring-fenced Area was free of the power crisis until Christmas, gas supply from the Eastern Gas network was stretched and had to be rationalized to meet the additional power demand imposed on power plants that are supplied from this network to partially bridge the national power grid supply gap.

Thr ECAN noted that if not for the nationwide gas shortages Aba and its environs would have enjoyed uninterrupted and quality electricity like Christmas of 2024.

“With full gas restoration now, we are confident that Aba people will, once again, enjoy constant power on New Year day and beyond”, stated the association of electricity consumers which praised Aba Power, the distribution member of the Geometric Power Group, for marking last month 80 days of regular power supply.

The group lauded Geometric Power for being the first electricity supplier to recover from the recent gas crisis, noting that it was the last electricity firm to reduce the quantum of power to its customers, but did experience a total blackout like other electricity distribution companies (DisCos) during the grid failure of December 29.

It added: “We are satisfied that Geometric Power has always gone out of its way to serve the Aba people”.

ECAN urged the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the gas crisis in Nigeria, saying that “the nation has no business suffering non-gas availability because we are blessed with a superabundance of gas more than any other country African country.
