The lawmaker described the attack as “barbaric and unacceptable” and urged security agencies to apprehend the suspects who had been on the run and bring them to justice.
He made the call while reacting to the incident yesterday in Ogoja local government area of Cross River State.

The lawmaker stated that the killing is unacceptable, urging security to ensure that the remaining suspects who had been on the run are fished out and brought to book.

“This senseless act of violence is not only barbaric but also completely unacceptable.

“The victim was an unarmed civilian going about his lawful business and had no connection to the ongoing communal tensions. His murder is a tragic and unjustifiable crime that must be met with the full wrath of the law.

A statement from Senator Jarigbe’s media team dated July 23, 2025, sighted by LEADERSHIP, called for the deployment of additional security personnel to the affected areas to prevent further escalation and protect innocent lives.

Agom stated that community leaders from the Obudu and Tsar communities in Benue State must engage to de-escalate tension and foster dialogue for lasting peace.

“This communal clash must not extend beyond the disputed areas. Our people in Cross River North and Benue State have lived together for generations, intermarrying, trading, and peacefully coexisting.

“We must not allow the actions of a few criminals to destroy this longstanding harmony and put our people at risk.

“I urge all residents to remain calm and law-abiding while security agencies restore order,” Agom advised.

Agom appealed to community leaders of Tsar people of Benue state not to consider retaliation as an option, stressing that retaliatory attacks will not help matters but worsen the situation, begging the aggrieved Benue neighbours to avoid retaliatory attacks at all costs.
