Restriction Of Movement During Polls Military Ideology — SIEC Chairman

The chairman, Forum of the State Independent Electoral Commissions, Mamman Nda Eri, says no eligible voter should be forced to exercise their civic responsibility, as the issue of restriction of movement during elections is a military ideology adopted by the democratic government.

The chairman who is in Jalingo alongside 23 other chairmen of SIECs to monitor the local government election, said closing businesses or commercial activities for a democratic election is not a global standard.

Eri, who is the SIEC chairman in Kogi State, said election is a civic responsibility, and you don’t need to force people to come out and vote.

“In the United States there is nothing like restriction of movement during the elections.  You can go to your office, come out and vote and then go back. I think is the best thing to do and we are going to adopt it,” he said.
