The people of Zaakpon community in Khana local government area of Rivers State have applauded Governor Siminalayi Fubara over the return of peace to the area.
The paramount ruler of Bua-Zaakpon village, Chief John Suka-Bakpo, disclosed this yesterday at a thanksgiving service to celebrate seven years of the return of peace in Zaakpon.
Suka-Bakpo said: “We thank God today for the thanksgiving we have all enjoyed. It is what we have been expecting and it has come. We want to thank God for the peace we have enjoyed throughout this year. That is the hallmark of today’s celebration.
“We want to thank Chief Gani Topba, who has helped us this far because if not for him, the crisis we had in the community would not have allowed us to do this thanksgiving. But, he has used his time and his energy to make sure that there is peace in the community.
“All of us today are enjoying and also supporting him. We also want to thank the governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, who has also shown to us that he is a son of our dear community, Zaakpon and has shown love from left to right.
“He has been able to mark action with his words. We are very grateful to him over that. We want to appeal to our mothers and fathers here, nobody is going to sustain the peace for us, it is our duty to do that and God will also help us to do so.
“We want to appeal to our mothers to advise their son’s and daughters so that the peace we have in the community will be sustained.”
Also speaking, coordinator Bua-Zaakpon Prayer Team, Charles Daka, said the community remains grateful for the return of peace in the community.
Daka called on the people of Zaakpon to continue to work harder in the sustenance of the existing peace in the community.
