The International Association of World Peace Ambassadors (IAWPA) has commended the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) for its participation at the just-concluded UNIDO Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Amb. Nwokoma Messiah, Director Media and Publicity of IAWPA, stated that the participation of NEDC in the summit was a significant step towards raising cooperation and partnerships that will enhance the performance of the Commission.
“Participating in UN conferences and summits provides government agencies with a unique opportunity to learn from global best practices, network with international experts and policymakers, and showcase their efforts in promoting sustainable development,” Amb. Messiah said.
The statement further stresses that benefits of government agencies participating in UN conferences and summits include “Capacity building which guarantees exposure to global best practices and innovations enhances the skills and knowledge of staff, improving performance and effectiveness.
“Other benefits include Networking opportunities which fosters interaction with international experts, policymakers, and practitioners fosters collaboration and partnerships, Policy development is another benefit of such participation and it provides Insights into emerging trends and challenges inform policy decisions and reforms.”
Amb. Nwokoma further stressed that resource mobilisation is another benefit which participating in such summits bring and this helps in providing opportunities to attract developmental partners and funding for development projects.
Lastly, the statement said NEDC through its participation at the UNIDO SUMMIT and other summits of the United Nations will attract International cooperation that will aid in strengthening relationships with global partners enhance Nigeria’s reputation and cooperation in addressing global challenges.
“IAWPA believes that NEDC’s participation in the UNIDO Summit will help attract developmental partners and enhance its performance in promoting sustainable development in the North East region. We encourage other government agencies to seize such opportunities by participating in other United Nations conferences and summits to help build the capacity of their staff and enhance their performance,” the statement added.
