Ogun State government on Wednesday clarified that its efforts at reconstructing some bad roads across the three senatorial districts of the state was not driven by politics, but borne out of their importance to the socioeconomic development of the state.

With particular mentioning of the 32 kilometer Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute-Alagbole road in Ifo Local Government Area of the state, as well as a section of the Lagos – Sango Ota – Abeokuta road, government explained that its resolve to fix them genuinely arrived at because of their importance to the states and also ease the pains being experienced daily by the citizens and not to whip up any sentiment for the reelection of the incumbent governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Odusile made the clarification while fielding questions from journalists at Chief Segun Osoba Press Centre, Abeokuta.

Odusile explained that the Dapo Abiidun led administration in the state had prior till now, made series of efforts to particularly fix some portions of Lagos – Sango Ota – Abeokuta road, which prompted the governor to visit Abuja on four occasions in respect of the deplorable condition of the road.
The commissioner further disclosed that the Federal Government had advised that the road could not be ceded to the state as it was already tied to an existing contract.

Odusile explained that the resolve to begin palliative work on the road from Singer stretch of it to Toll gate end, has nothing to do with politics of 2023 or related matters as might have been erroneously perceived in some quarters.

According to him, given all the efforts made so far to have the FG give Ogun leave to fix the road but without light at the end of the tunnel, in addition to the uncertainty over when the Federal Government will fix it, the state had elected to now do something about it to lessen the suffering of road users.

Odusile also said the approval has also been given by the State Executive Council at its meeting on Monday to begin reconstruction of Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute-Alagbole end of Ogun State to the Yakoyo-Ojodu-Berger end in Lagos, was began in 2013 but abandoned by the immediate past administration.
