Legendary singer Rod Stewart had to pause his performance and take oxygen backstage after appearing to nearly faint during a concert, according to TMZ.

The 81-year-old singer was seen doubling over and struggling on stage at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre in West Valley City on Friday, before crew members brought out an oxygen tank to help him recover.

He later spoke to the crowd, joking about the scare while admitting he’d come close to passing out, and finished the rest of the show seated.

The incident follows a rocky few weeks for the rocker. Earlier this month, he postponed several Las Vegas residency dates on doctors’ orders while battling the flu, then scrapped a further six US tour stops days later.

“I’m devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans,” he wrote on Instagram, promising a speedy return.
